Dolphin Day

Dolphin day is meant to raise awareness about these wonderful, curious water mammals.  It’s been a thing for a few decades apparently and is celebrated around the world.

A lot of work has been carried out to improve our understanding of these intelligent, communicative animals and swimming with dolphins is on many a bucket list.  But this doesn’t mean that dolphins are safe.  They are still kept in captivity depsite vast research suggesting this is a harmful practice.  They are still harmed by fishing practices and our overfishing depletes their food supply.  They are hunted, they face pollution from the waste we empty into the ocean to the noise we make which disrupts their hearing.

I talk more about this wonderful creature in my post about the dolphin animal spirit card.
